Prasoon Poddar
Understanding The Artist
Prasoon, as an artist, is very humble and grounded. Hailing from Patna, Bihar, he’s had a great art influence during his childhood. He looked up to his father, as he was the one who indulged in art practices like sculpting, sign-board making, wall painting etc. So, for Prasoon, art began at home.
His father was his guide into the world of art. But soon after losing him, Prasoon was about to lose touch with this field, too. But deep inside, it was always clear to him that he wanted to pursue art. He definitely wanted to give this field a try. Otherwise, he would have taken up Hotel Management, as he loves cooking.
In order to follow his passion, Prasoon first completed his education, and completed bachelors in History (Hons.). He also joined Patna College of Art. But at that point, someone convinced him to come to Delhi and pursue art there. Leaving behind everything, taking up his meagre savings with him, Prasoon came to Delhi and joined Jamia College of Art.
Accidently, on his way to Delhi, he happened to meet someone, who presently has become a big part of his life. He found another guardian; a guide who would always help him whenever he needs it.
Soon after college, Prasoon wanted to take up work on his art and develop it further. Instead, he took a friend’s advice of working for sometime and saving up some money. So finally, after 5 years, Prasoon finally quit his job as an Asst. Professor at a college in 2017 to begin his journey in the world of art, now, as an artist. But all those years spent teaching over 800 students, he feels there has been a great impact on his existing opinions as an artist. He believes he has inherited a deeper self-growth.
He feels there is so much to learn from the students. There is always a “Give and Take” experience of learning with people of the new generation. His colleagues as well helped him to introspect his own judgements, and encouraged him to become a self-critique.
Being a teacher, he urges that the education system for art be more dynamic. A student must be taught all aspects of being an artist- from taking criticism to awaiting responses from a gallery regarding their artworks. The teaching should be structured more practically to make every student understand the shortcomings of this field as well.
All his artworks are a message for society, with the ideas inborn from there. Even though, he senses that he is evolving with every, subsequent work that he produces. This has been a great deciding factor for him to be consistent.
